Gigabyte P55A-UD5. 1156 i7 socket, USB 3.0, Sata 6Gb/s, Sli & Crossfire compatible, DDR3 2200+. I removed the old Apple Sata cables from the case as they wouldn't reach the new Motherboard, I replaced them with the stock orange ones from the MoBo box. I used Araldite to put the power supply in position, it now allows the perspex air baffle to close properly, I am so happy at the moment, my vision is finally becoming a reality. I am currently thinking of cooling ideas, fan placement, etc. Also thinking of creating some kind of divider or tubing to keep as much hot air from the power supply away from the main components.

Sun, 27 Dec 2009 22:26:11 -0800 Update on Power-Supply http://joshfox.posterous.com/update-on-power-supply http://joshfox.posterous.com/update-on-power-supply Bolting down the power supply was perhaps not a good idea, during the drilling I accidentally moved it from it's ideal position. Now I cannot put the air-baffle in anymore which will affect noise and air- flow control. I have removed the bolts and tomorrow morning I am going to put it in its original position with Araldite. I don't like the bolts sticking out of the bottom anyway as they are visible when I sit on my bed.

On a side-note, the Antec TruPower 750w PSU is pretty awesome, it's extremely quiet, will probably be a bit noisier under heavier load, tested on my sisters quad core win 7 machine.

Sun, 27 Dec 2009 18:28:40 -0800 Powermac G5 Case Mod http://joshfox.posterous.com/powermac-g5-case-mod http://joshfox.posterous.com/powermac-g5-case-mod Hey all, Instead of hogging PR3DATOR8'S Blog, I thought I would post my own pics of the Powermac G5 Case mod I have been working on VERY occasionally since around July 2009.

I apologise I do not have any before pics, I didn't consider journaling the build at the time.

With the Powermac G5 cases you can keep the original back panel by using a micro-atx motherboard, however I felt that was somewhat of a waste, and seeing as I didn’t mind having an ugly back panel in exchange for ultimate compatibiilty and easy access to ports. What I did was buy a cheap $20 ATX computer case, cut it up and put it inside the Powermac case. I then cut as little as possible out of the back of the Powermac case to accomodate the new shape. I think I did a pretty good job considering my total lack of metal working skills. I have not done anything since, and my next steps will be to actually buy a motherboard and a power supply so I can start to get things on track one piece at a time.

This morning I picked up an Antec TruPower 750w Power Supply from MSY for $159, the idiot behind the counter couldn't find the 550w on the shelf, so gave me the 750w with a $20 discount.

I disassembled the power supply, and with some help from Dad cos it required 4 hands, we drilled and bolted the power supply casing to the case, using rubber washers for extra safety. I then re-assembled the power supply (with great difficulty) and as you can see it is now sitting nicely in the front of the case. Im now thinking of more permanent ideas for the power cord, instead of it just going through a hole in the back. As well I would like to relocate the power switch for the power supply, perhaps to the bottom of the case, near to the front.
